Vonny McCarver of Everett recently asked if anyone could suggest organizations in this area who could use “”tabbies” from pop and beer cans for their aluminum weight, explaining that she was a tabbie saver from way back and was still saving them for “”Grandma” until recently, when the family lost her.
Three Forum helpers are right on top of this subject, so here we go, starting with Ann O’Donnell of Everett, who says, “”I save tabbies for the Ronald McDonald House in Boise, where my son and daughter-in-law lived for three months while their babies were in the NICU, so I would bet the Seattle Ronald McDonald House is also taking them.”
Next, Snohomish reader Laurilie Carpenter writes, “”You probably have had several responses to your column mentioning pop-can tabs, but if not, here is one. The Golden Threads group in the Washington State Goods Sams organization collects them for the Spokane Ronald McDonald House, but the Seattle house can not use them.
“”Anyone attending one of the three state meetings can deliver them. I am a member of the Good Guy Sams which meets at the Golden Corral in Marysville at 11 a.m. on the third Friday of each month, and I would be happy to expedite the transportation of any tabs. We have members from many towns: Marysville, Stanwood, Arlington, Tulalip, Camano Island, Monroe, Everett, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Lynnwood and Edmonds.”
And Jan Doran Faulds of Brier tells us, “”My American Legion Auxiliary, 22909 56th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace, collects the tabbies for the Veterans’ Hospitals, or Forum readers can drop them off at my house, 21810 Oak Way, Brier, WA 98036.”
Now, folks, remember the recipe with the frozen cheese blintzes that made such an instant hit? And the subsequent problem some readers had trying to find a store that carried them? Well, we’re back there again, with this SOS: from Lynnwood reader Blanche Brice, who says, “”I have not been able to find a store that carries these frozen cheese blintzes. Can anyone help me locate them in a store here in Lynnwood? If not, where can I find them?”
SOS: Terry Kelting of Lynnwood writes, “”Years ago, a friend pickled salmon and it was wonderful! I have looked for the recipe and asked friends. Many remember the pickled salmon, but no luck coming up with a recipe. I hope someone can share this fish treatment.”
