Do all roads lead to Rome? They will on Monday when Cascade Symphony Orchestra presents the Roman-inspired concert “All Roads Lead to Rome.”
Featured soloist Brittany Boulding will do some heavy lifting by leading the orchestra in two spectacular pieces written for violin, the “Carmen Fantasy” by Sarasate and “Tzigane” by Ravel.
Boulding is concertmaster and soloist for the Auburn Symphony Orchestra and 5th Avenue Theater.
Ravel’s “Tzigane” is a dreamy, dark-toned piece with a Hungarian gypsy spirit that really takes off in the second section, challenging the soloist to some crazy-fast passages.
The “Carmen Fantasy” continues on that rhythmic track, and the piece ends with the passionate “Gypsy Dance.”
The concert includes the “Overture to Euryanthe” by Carl Maria von Weber, which contains haunting and muted melodies along with a soaring, triumphant ending.
Tchaikovsky’s “Francesca da Rimini” will also be performed. This is a tragic tale of a beauty that was immortalized in Dante’s “Divine Comedy.”
The concert ends with Respighi’s “Pines of Rome,” a symphonic poem that pays tribute to Rome, The Eternal City.
Limited tickets remain for “All Roads Lead to Rome,” which starts at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds.
A pre-concert lecture will be presented at 6:30 p.m. by KUOW-FM’s Dave Beck.

Lenten Concert: Ebenezer Lutheran Church will present a Lenten Concert featuring a piece written by Giovanni Pergolesi, a frequently printed work used as an annual Good Friday meditation to honor the Virgin Mary.
The haunting “Stabat Mater” or “Sorrowful Mother” was composed by Pergolesi in 1736, and finished weeks before his death at age 26.
The concert will include works by Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Bach and Grieg.
Featured performers are soprano Diane Althaus, mezzo Joy Shepard Baldridge, baritone Mike Dodaro and pianist Andy Carr.
The “Stabat Mater” will take up the first part of the concert.
Following an intermission, the concert will perform Handel’s “O Lovely Peace,” Mozart’s “Laudate Dominum,” Verdi’s “Recordare,” J. S. Bach’s “Consider, O My Soul,” Grieg’s “An den Fruhling” and Handel’s “The Trumpet Shall Sound.”
The Lenten Concert starts at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th Ave. NE, Lake Stevens. Admission is free but a free-will offering will be taken.
