Center opens its doors

The Northshore Performing Arts Center, a 607-square-foot state-of-the-art performing arts complex in Bothell, opened late last year as the area’s newest entertainment complex.

The center, on the grounds of Bothell High School, will host a series of musical events during its inaugural season beginning next month, including pianist George Winston, singer-songwriter Richie Havens and the Tony-winning cabaret-style musical “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” Dancer Ben Vereen is the featured artist at a Feb. 27 opening gala.

The facility, located at 18125 92nd Ave. NE, was built as a partnership between the Northshore School District and a citizens group, the Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation.

The center will host performances by community arts groups as well as present a series of shows, which are being organized by programming director David Shaw. In the early 1990s, Shaw was director of the Everett Performing Arts Center, booking concerts and shows during its early years.

The Northshore Performing Arts Center show schedule:

George Winston, 7 p.m. Feb. 19. The Grammy-winning pianist stars in a concert that includes his greatest hits plus music from his newest CD, “Montana – A Love Story.” Tickets, $29.50-$39.50.

“A Fine and Pleasant Misery,” 8 p.m. April 14. Actor Tim Behrens presents a stage show based on the popular writings of Pat McManus, an author whose stories of growing up in rural Idaho have made him one of America’s funniest humor writers. Behrens brings the stories to life, creating more than a dozen quirky characters. Tickets, $19.50-$24.50.

Darol Anger’s Republic of Strings, 8 p.m. April 15. Anger is a fiddle virtuoso who, with his all-string band, plays a category-defying style of music known as “Afro-Brazilian-Scandinavian bluegrass” that fuses traditional fiddling and world music. Tickets, $19.50-$24.50.
