Although composer Giuseppe Verdi is mostly known for his operas, his Requiem mass has become one of the most beloved of choral works.
To help present this grand composition, the Choir of the Sound joins the Cascade Symphony Orchestra in a program consisting entirely of the Requiem, to be performed without intermission Monday night.
The Choir of the Sound is among the leading community choirs in the Puget Sound area. The group performs major choral and classical works, as well as holiday and spring pops concerts.
In 2005, singers traveled to Carnegie Hall in New York to perform Vivaldi’s Gloria. In 2007 they toured Italy, performing in several cities.
For Monday’s concert, the vocal solos will be performed by soprano Christina Kowalski, mezzo-soprano Jenny Knapp, tenor Gino Lucchetti and baritone Erich Parce.
Music Director Michael Miropolsky will lead the orchestra in his eighth season. Miropolsky received his musical education in Moscow, Russia. He has been assistant principal second violin with the Seattle Symphony since 1991. He is founder and music director of Seattle Violin Virtuosi and the Seattle Chamber Orchestra.
The Requiem concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds.
Tickets are $20 and $15. For more information or to order tickets, call 425-776-4938 or visit the Cascade Symphony Web site at www.cascadesymphony.org.
