Enroll your child to explore ballet’s rich history through imaginative dance classes and arts and crafts projects focused around ballet’s great stories.
Summer Dance Workshops from July 12 through Aug. 13 at the Francia Russell Center in Bellevue provide an introduction to dance, rhythm and music appropriate for students ages 4 to 7 (4-year-olds must turn 5 by Dec. 31).
The one-week sessions meet daily Monday through Friday for 2 ½ hours (students may register for more than one session). Different ballets (“Cinderella,” “The Sleeping Beauty,” “Swan Lake,” The Nutcracker”) are the focus each week.
Each day includes an hourlong dance class, story, craft project and a break for a snack. At the end of the week, children participate in an informal mini-performance featuring choreography relating to that week’s theme, with scenery and props created by the students.
Cost is $230 for each session, and parents can choose a morning (9:30 to 11: a.m.) or afternoon (12:30 to 3 p.m.) session. Spaces are filling up fast, though. Call Pacific Northwest Ballet School at 425-451-1241 to register.
