It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a utility company, but your Snohomish County PUD spends a lot of time working to be an active member of the communities that we serve throughout Snohomish County and Camano Island.

As a public power utility, we believe that creating relationships with our customers is as fundamental to our mission as delivering power and water. Our strategic priorities reflect this as we take seriously our role in supporting the vitality of the communities we serve and find ways to engage with all of our customers.

It is vital to us that we strive to be proactive in helping our customers. We don’t want to wait for customers to come to us with an issue. We want to meet our customers where they are — sharing information on the latest trends, challenges and innovations — and addressing their concerns.

We want to prioritize listening. Education is incredibly important, but so is listening and having a dialogue with our customers. Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the PUD participated in more than 70 community events, in addition to countless science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) nights at several local schools across the PUD’s service area. Each one was a chance to talk to our customers and get feedback and information about the PUD.

Recently, we were blown away by the response to our inaugural Energy Block Party in April. PUD staff and leaders were thrilled to see thousands come to our headquarters in downtown Everett for a family-focused event that featured a touch-a-truck, electric vehicle car show, children’s activities, information booths, food trucks and more. It was a blast to host you all, and we can’t thank you enough for being a part of it.

If you missed out on the fun, don’t worry: We’ll be throwing another party for Earth Day next April.

We’ve tried to keep that going by continuing to appear at several events, including local summer festivals and parades throughout Snohomish County, events and education nights at local schools, and even fielding a couple of teams in the recently completed Everett 3on3 basketball tournament.

Coming up in just a couple of months is our second-annual Run for Warmth. Last year, we partnered with the Snohomish Running Company on their 5K/10K run to raise money for Project PRIDE, our customer-funded financial assistance program that helps customers who are struggling with their energy bills.

Come on out and run or walk for a good cause the morning of Oct. 15 in downtown Snohomish. Use the code SNOPUD10 to get 10% off the cost of registration – and have a portion of your fee go toward Project PRIDE.

Here at the PUD, we will continue to find ways to get out in the community and connect with those we serve. We are honored to be your public power utility and will do all we can to continue to energize life in our communities.

Learn about Connect Up

The PUD recently began deployment of advanced electric and water meters through its Connect Up program. Join us at noon on Sept. 7 for our virtual Power Talks presentation to learn more on Connect Up and advanced meters.
