50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Mike Kirkland of Marysville and three University of Washington fraternity brothers, Dick Foley, Bob Flick and John Paine — The Brothers Four — were being touted by Columbia Records as sure-fire hits as a result of a number of records they cut last summer. Among the songs were “Chicka Mauga,” “Hi-Di” and “Darlin’, Won’t You Wait.” Kirkland, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Kirkland, was student body president at Marysville High School his final year, 1956.
The Triway Grange was meeting tonight and the public was welcome. There would be a program conducted by lecturer Bill Burby, followed by refreshments.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
TeleComp, a full-service business communication firm, had opened at 7600 Evergreen Way. Owners were Chuck and Carol Pretlow, Larry and Arja Scott, Harold and Linda Hepler, and Larry Sparks. Among the services provided was business computer training.
Snohomish took a first step toward asking voters to pay to cover the city’s Hal Moe swimming pool and to build a senior center at Averill Field. Supporters of the program hoped to place the bond issue before the city’s voters in February.
