The latest edition of the “Day Hiking” series from Mountaineers Books hits close to home.
“Day Hiking: Central Cascades,” opens with six hikes on Whidbey Island, and then follows the highway system eastward, featuring hikes in and around Stevens Pass, Lake Wenatchee and Lake Chelan, among other areas.
The book, available now, offers a compact and informative look at 125 trails in all.
Written by Mount Vernon resident Craig Romano, the guide is ideal for hikers interested in expanding their knowledge of the area.
Romano includes information on trail conditions, elevations and camping options. He also gives readers a sense of each trail’s character. He ranks them by difficulty, comments on the scenery and includes historical asides.
The guide has a retail price of $18.95 and is available at Amazon.com. Past Romano entries in the “Day Hiking” series have focused on the North Cascades and the Olympic Peninsula. Learn more about the series at www.mountaineersbooks.org.
