Exercise: You know you need it, but it’s tough to find the time and energy to move when your daily routine involves sitting: at a desk, in a car or on the couch.
With that in mind, we offer the second installment in a four-part monthly series, everyday exercise. The idea is that you can try these simple movements during the day at work or during commercials while you’re watching TV. They don’t require any particular skill or finesse, and they’ve been approved by professionals in the exercise field.
Just a few minutes of exercise a day doesn’t promise robust health and longevity, but it may help you avoid repetitive stress disorders and it will definitely banish midafternoon slump better than a cup of java or a raid on the vending machines.
It might also make you feel so good that you add some exercise on your own.
This month, we look at a basic exercise that works your core muscles. This diagram shows you how.

Another tip
Stick a Post-it note on your monitor. Whenever you notice the note, tighten your stomach. Hold the position for 3 to 7 seconds, breathing slowly. Repeat.
