To promote “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” actor John C. Reilly intends to tour in character as rock star Dewey Cox.
While the shows regrettably won’t bring Reilly to Seattle, locals can scoop up the soundtrack to the comedy, out today.
In “Walk Hard,” Reilly plays Cox, a musician haunted by the time he accidentally cut his brother in half with a machete. Previews for the film online are both PG- and R-rated. (That is, this stuff runs a little hot, so be warned before clicking around the little ones.)
For the part, Reilly mainly seems to spoof Johnny Cash — or at least Joaquin Phoenix’s interpretation of Cash. Clips online show Reilly playing the movie’s title track, “Walk Hard,” along with the entendre-heavy “Let’s Duet,” with Jenna Fischer from TV’s “The Office.” (Note: You have to wade through a commercial to see that clip.)
The film itself is scheduled to open on Dec. 21.
Outside his live shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Reilly/Cox won’t make it to the West Coast. Here are the scheduled dates for the Cox Across America tour:
Dec. 5 – Cleveland, OH
Dec. 6 – Chicago, Ill.
Dec. 7 – Austin, TX
Dec. 8 – Nashville, Tenn.
Dec. 10 – San Francisco, Calif.
Dec. 13 – Los Angeles, Calif.
Dec. 19 – New York, NY
Slow down, Dewey. Don’t walk so hard.
