For Steve Huskey, it’s been a long road to opening Dreadnought Brewing.
So Thursday he’s planning on celebrating in style — which means guitars and beer.
After 18 months of planning, Huskey will host the grand opening of Dreadnought Brewing June 25 in Monroe. Doors open at 4 p.m. and Monroe mayor Geoffrey Thomas will be on hand for a ribbon cutting to welcome the new business to town.
Huskey, 43, plays guitar and the brewery marries his two loves: guitars and beer. (Dreadnought is a style of acoustic guitar). He’s been playing guitar since he was 9 and brewing beer since 1991. He took some time off — my first few batches were not very good, Huskey admits — but rekindled his love for brewing about a decade ago. Since then he’s been perfecting his recipes and has gotten such good feedback from friends in the business that he felt it was time to start his own brewery.
With the help of five other investors, Huskey, who works as a computer information systems security manager, purchased retail space in the Fryelands area of Monroe that will house the brewery, taproom and a full kitchen, allowing the brewery to have full menu and be family friendly.
The brewery will have five beers on tap for the grand opening: a blonde ale, California-style pale ale, Northwest-style IPA, oatmeal stout and an imperial oatmeal stout.
