Allan Felix has just been through a messy divorce. His two friends, Linda and Dick, succeed in convincing him to date again. He’s also getting advice from the ghost of Humphrey Bogart, a spirit that only Allan can see and hear.
The story of “Play It Again Sam” is part comedy, part tribute to the legend of Bogart. You’ll recognize the plot from the Woody Allen film of the same name and realize that the nebbish hero puts on a mask with women he doesn’t know but eventually falls for Linda, around whom he is himself.
Alas, Linda is married to Dick so the romance appears doomed, just as it was for Bogart and Bergman in “Casablanca.”
The Phoenix Theatre is putting on this production and hosting “Bogie Nights,” inviting all Bogart fans to come to the theater dressed as a character from a favorite Bogart film for a chance to win a free concession of your choice and have your name entered in a drawing to win a classic Bogie film on DVD.
“Bogie Nights” will be Saturday and Sept. 19. Tickets are limited so reserve seats early.
“Play It Again Sam” opens at 8 tonight at The Phoenix Theatre, 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 4. Tickets are $22.50, $18 and $12. Call 206-533-2000 or go to www.brownpapertickets.com or www.phoenixtheatreedmonds.com.
