Do you own a car you rarely drive? Maybe you bike, walk or use the bus to get around. Or maybe you have a larger vehicle that you only use for heavy lifting.
If so, you could get a little break on your insurance, thanks to a bill under consideration in the state legislature. The mileage on your vehicle would be electronically tracked to calculate your insurance. As the Seattle Times reports, this raises some privacy concerns.
I would willing allow an insurance company to track how many miles I drive. I think it would be worth it for lower premiums – not to mention another incentive to limit how many miles we put on our cars. I have an old van sitting in the driveway. I hate it, but we keep it around because it was free, and it comes in handy several times a year. We recently used it to move a dresser for a neighbor. It also made it possible for us got get wood for our fireplace and building supplies for our garden.
What do you think? Would you be willing to give up a little bit of privacy in the name of environmentally friendly, and possibly cheaper, insurance? Is this a good idea?
