The exceptional talents of violinist Fred Chu, concertmaster for Everett Symphony Orchestra, will be showcased when Chu goes solo for a show this weekend to inaugurate the symphony’s 70th anniversary season.
The solo recital is at 7 p.m. Saturday in an intimate setting at symphony headquarters, 2710 Colby Ave., Everett. There are about 100 tickets left at $25 per ticket with Chu donating all proceeds to benefit the Everett Symphony.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 888-266-8486 or by going to the Web site at www.everettsymphony.org.
The program will feature a variety of selections by Chu, who is known for enjoying showy, passionate and emotional musical pieces.
Chu became concertmaster of the Central Opera of Beijing, China, in 1983. In 1986, he became concertmaster of the Chicago Civic Orchestra under the baton of the late Sir Georg Solti. He had served as concertmaster of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 1997, where he had the opportunity to perform with violin greats Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell, according to Chu’s biography supplied by the symphony.
Former symphony executive director Jody Matthews once called Chu “just phenomenal.”
“When you watch him on stage, he just moves you. The music he makes just fills you with such wonder. He’s just a master,” Matthews once told The Herald.
