Meet the next heartthrob. The next top male model. The next Johnny Depp.
Azmyth Kaminski, formerly of Snohomish, is ready for any and all of it.
But first, Azmyth Kaminski – back to that name in a bit – has to be the pirate who wins the largest booty.
Kaminski, 26, is one of 16 modern-day pirates on CBS’s new reality show, “Pirate Master.” The show is set around the Caribbean island of Dominica where the search is on for hidden treasure totaling $1 million.
The pirates live for 33 days on a 179-foot pirate ship. Each week, the pirates partake of treasure hunts, decipher clues and do other piratey things that will then win them gold coins – real ones – and possibly the chance to be captain and boss the other buccaneers around.
This goes on until discontent and possibly mutiny occurs. These ugly episodes necessitate a Pirate’s Court, when a pirate gets cut from the cast.
In the end, there’ll be just one pirate master to claim the final $500,000 prize.
The show has already been filmed and Kaminski can’t reveal any insider stuff. But in a phone interview from Los Angeles on Thursday, Kaminski called himself “a very likeable person.”
“There’s a very slim chance that someone wouldn’t get along with me on the show,” he said.
Kaminski planned to attend a premiere party in Beverly Hills on Thursday night. Another party was planned at the Sports Page Grille &Bar in Snohomish for family and friends.
“We’re hoping he’s the type of person to stay on,” said his mom, Nancy Kaminski, owner of Designer’s Furniture Warehouse.
Kaminski gave the sense that he is that type of person.
In school, he said he was the “outstanding and outlandish” student but also the one who could go between all groups.
He said he was somewhat of a rebel. In preschool, he was the first kid to dress as a punk rocker with pink hair and fingerless gloves. He was given detention the day he decided to wear a skirt to school.
“He had a style all his own. He was a cool kid,” Nancy Kaminski said.
Then he changed his name.
It was originally Robyn Kaminski. In school he began to spell it Robin. At 18, he legally changed it to Azmyth.
Kaminski has studied art and architecture, and recently picked up a contract with Nordstrom as a mobile deejay for Jimmy Buffet’s new line of shoes.
He’s also acted. He was an extra in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” before he was hung in the first three minutes.
“I would love to get into acting,” Kaminski said. “I’ve been doing some modeling, some fashion design right now, so acting, it would be fantastic.”
