In a satirical documentary, Ben Stein travels the world, according to press materials for the movie, “looking to some of the best scientific minds of our generation for the answer to the biggest question facing all Americans today: Are we still free to disagree about the meaning of life? Or has the whole issue already been decided … while most of us weren’t looking?” The issue, as we understand it, is intelligent design versus evolution, but since the movie wasn’t screened for critics, who knows? According to the Internet Movie Database, preview screenings for the movie were held for churches and other Christian groups by invitation only. And the evolutionary biologists depicted in the movie have since objected to the intercutting of their interviews with footage of Hitler and Nazi stormtroopers. Rated PG for subject matter, the movie opens today at Alderwood, Everett, Galaxy Monroe, Marysville, Pacific Place, Uptown and Cascade Mall.
