If you’re still on the fence about paper or plastic grocery bags, here’s another nail in the coffin of plastic: PCC Natural Markets, which has eight stores in the Seattle area, will officially abandon plastic bags Oct. 1.
Yes, that includes even the biodegradable white plastic bags now offered at the stores.
The PCC began as a food-buying club of 15 families in 1953 under the name Puget Consumers Co-op. Today, it is the largest consumer-owned natural food co-operative in the United States with 40,000 members and thousands of non-members.
The PCC is a major contributor to The PCC Farmland Trust, an independent nonprofit group that works to preserve threatened farmland in Washington for organic food production.
