Visits with Santa, special rides and a wondrous viewing of lights are three sure signs that the holiday season has begun in Bothell.
Beginning at 5:30 tonight, children can enjoy tractor rides through the festive scene at the Park at Bothell Landing, 9919 NE 180th St., can chat with Santa and can watch the lighting of the city’s holiday tree.
The lighting is set for 6:30 p.m. Bring your camera to take pictures by the tree.
Santa will be on hand continuously from 5:30 to the end of the festivities — about 8 p.m. — to greet guests at Lytle House, in the Park at Bothell Landing.
Activities are free, with the exception of food from vendors.
“The city has been coordinating Winterfest for around 10 years,” Public Works Superintendent Pat Parkhurst said, “however, there has been a tree-lighting event in Bothell for over 35 years.
“Winterfest is a holiday tradition for many Bothell families. This event is very similar year after year and (that’s) one of the reasons folks keep returning. Parents who once attended the tree lighting festivals (as children) are now bringing their children.”
