What: Once mature, this giant lily makes a stunning presence in the garden. Reaching 6 to 8 feet in height, the leafy stems are topped with large, flat-shaped starry flowers of crimson, edged in creamy white with rusty brown protruding anthers. This long-lived bulb blooms in summer and thrives in full sun to light shade.
Where: Scheherazade lily grows best in full sun, but will bloom fine in light shade. Provide a location with rich, well-drained soil. Bulbs can be planted from fall to early spring.
Size: Reaches 8 feet high by 1 foot wide in 10 years.
Care: Water frequently, two to three times a week, for the best show. Bulbs can be moved or divided in fall or winter. Once the foliage yellows, it can be cut to the ground. In spring, protect new growth from slugs and snails.
