When I started this blog in July, I put a call out for questions about hard-to-recycle items as part of a first-ever Stump the Recycler challenge.
So far, I’ve been delighted to receive numerous requests for how to dispose of nearly everything, including tires, used vegetable oil, yard chemicals, plastic newpaper sacks, shredded paper, Styrofoam, old gas barbecues, cell phones, computers, printers, lawnmowers, bunny litter (!) and plastic plant pots.
Many things, it turns out, can be recycled or safely thrown away at Snohomish County Solid Waste facilities. But, being your faithful Eco Geek, I’m am still on the prowl for a variety of options for the most eco-friendly choices when it comes to recycling.
While I know it’s important to get rid of items in a timely manner, I think it’s also crucial to know where items go after we recycle them — and if the easier practice is actually the best.
In the meantime, why not download the free Snohomish County Recycling Guide (PDF) or call the recycling hot line, 425-388-3425, ext. 0, staffed by some truly helpful people, who can answer most recycling and disposal questions. They’ll also send you free brochures on recycling and composting if you ask nicely.
Watch this space for definitive recycling answers and keep those questions coming!
