The Edmonds Arts Commission presents an exhibit of work by Lynette Hensley through September in the Edmonds Public Library, 650 Main St.
Hensley, originally from California, came to the Northwest via the East Coast, where she received a degree in theater costume design and worked in that field for more than two decades.
The costume renderings became paintings instead of diagrams, and the work got bigger, paint/collage on canvas.
The artist says her work is heavily influenced by Edouard Manet: his way of depicting people, and his slightly skewed viewpoint that comes across in this paintings.
Duo show: Paintings by Anne Martin McCool and ceramic sculptures by Teri Silva are on view this month in the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation Gallery, located at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds.
The exhibit is a joint presentation by the Edmonds Arts Commission and the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation.
McCool, who has a studio and gallery in Anacortes, traces her painting roots to the landscape, a theme prevalent throughout most of her work, which is inspired by the Pacific Northwest.
For the past six years, the image of the crow and all it’s associated notations and lore have held Silva’s interest.
Each fall, large numbers of crows gather in the woods next to her rural Sedro-Wooley studio; now they are in her artwork.
In the Loft: The Gallery in the Loft is showing watercolors by Susan Cohen Thompson through Sept. 29 at Islanders Restaurant, located on Camano Island in the Camano Commons at Terry’s Corner.
The artist has been painting and exhibiting professionally since 1979 including gallery shows in Boston, New York, Washington and Oregon.
Islanders shows are presented by the Gallery in the Loft, which located right next door to Islanders in the Brindles Building and where more of her work can be seen.
On Thursday, glass artist Marc Boutte will give a talk on art glass as part of the Loft Fine Art Lectures Series at the Gallery in the Loft, located at Brindles Marketplace, 848 N. Sunrise Blvd.
Boutte will discuss his hand-blown art glass techniques and share his philosophy, developed over nearly two decades of studying and making art glass.
The talk begins at 5 p.m.; reservations are recommended. Call 360-387-0688. Information, www.galleryintheloft.com.
Seattle Co-Arts: More than 70 works of art, most done in traditional/representational style and in a variety of mediums, are on view through Oct. 17 at the Arts Council of Snohomish County gallery in Everett.
The 55th annual Seattle Co-Arts Juried Art Show features works from Northwest artists who are members of Seattle-Co Arts, an organization founded in 1949.
Today, the group has nearly 150 members from throughout the Puget Sound region working in a diverse media including pastel, acrylic, oil, encaustic, watercolor and collage. The show includes two-dimensional work plus a category for miniatures.
Each year the group presents a juried show; Everett was chosen this year. Check out the art at the gallery, located in the Monte Cristo Hotel at 1057 Wall St., and see if you agree with this year’s judge, John Ringen.
Among the winners are Best of Show to Nancy Bogni; first place to Janet Foster; and second place to Nola Alan.
In the miniature category, the winners are Peggy Jacobs, first place; Lou Huff, second place; and third place awards went to Jean Cawthorn and Keith Artz.
