Container gardening: Take your container garden game to the next level. The Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens is hosting a “Pots With Pizzazz” class at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 via Zoom. Toby Nelson of Cambium Incorporated will teach a few design principles that will have you thinking about your plant selections in a new way. Got flooding?: Does your parking lot drain poorly? Do you have puddles where you don’t want them? The Snohomish Conservation District is hosting a “Coho Stormwater Discussion” webinar from 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 via Zoom. There are way to improve drainage problems and filter water to reduce the risk of harming coho salmon in the streams near your business. Rain washes pollution into the Quilceda Creek watershed and kills coho salmon before they can spawn. A Zoom link will be emailed to you with registration. Register at snohomishcd.org.

Puget Sound Bird Fest: The festival, set for Sept. 11-12, includes speakers, exhibits, field trips and activities all about birding at Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds. Keynote speaker is natural history author Maria Mudd-Ruth on “The Not-So-Awkward Auks.” Free. More at www.pugetsoundbirdfest.org.

Get wild: If you want to plant a garden that provides food and shelter for birds and bees, you must approach it holistically.The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks, hosts presentations the third Wednesday of the month. The next presentation, “Holistic Gardening: Healthy Soil, Native Plants, Clean Water” is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 15 via Zoom. Gwendolyn Hannam, an environmental biologist and a natural resource planner, will lead the presentation. A Zoom link will be emailed to you with registration. Historic Everett Home Tour: The virtual tour featuring four historic homes is Sept. 18 via YouTube. Tickets are $5 for members, $10 for non-members. Fall interest: The Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens is hosting a “Planting Pots for Fall Interest” class at 10 a.m. Sept. 18 at Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett. Meet the designers with tips and tricks to transition your summer containers into fall and winter stunners. This is a hands-on presentation — work on the arboretum’s containers and discuss appropriate plants and design ideas to keep containers exciting during the winter months. Become a farmer: Are you interested in farming? Do you dream of starting or expanding your own small farm? The Snohomish Conservation District is hosting the “Cultivating Success: Growing Future Farmers” series, which combines workshop and on-farm learning to help foster the success of new and existing farms. The 12-week course will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 21 through Dec. 7, via Zoom. Cost is $200 per farm. A Zoom link will be emailed to you with registration. Tour the arboretum: Sign up for a tour the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens. Known as Snohomish County’s treasure, the arboretum was founded in 1963 on 3.5 acres in Everett’s American Legion Memorial Park.
