50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Clearing of properties between 20th and 21st streets, McDougall Avenue and Broadway, got under way when house movers started changing the locations of homes that were built on the block. The area was being taken over for a new Tradewell that would replace the present grocery store a block south. The first house moved was that of Martha Crist, 2002 McDougall Ave.
Robert Swanson was elected president of Greater Marysville Inc. at the annual meeting. To serve with him were John Krell, A.E. “Red” Lundstedt, Nellian Davis and Evelyn Pilon. The main topic of discussion for the evening was the Strawberry Festival.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Merchants at the Everett Mall invited the public to have a safe and fun Halloween by trick-or-treating with them. They offered face-painting and costume contests. The latter was divided into scariest, most original and best character categories.
Firestone was having a Drive Over Sale with steel-belted radials starting at $29.95. Local outlets were at 2701 Everett Ave. in Everett and at 19629 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.
