An Dóchas and the Haran Irish Dancers perform Tuesday as the first in Everett Community College’s 2008 Artist and Lecture Series.
The free series continues April 19 with Step Afrika, and ends May 15 with Portland Taiko.
An Dóchas (Irish for “the hope”) performs a blend of traditional Irish music with world music influences and the energy of rock. Using an array of traditional and nontraditional instruments — including the guitar, bass, drums, Uillean pipes, whistles, Bodhran and fiddle — group members present a dynamic performance of moving ballads, as well as rowdy comical numbers.
While An Dóchas plays, the Haran Irish Dancers dance — Irish step dancing, to be precise. The dancers incorporate slip jigs danced in soft shoe, figure dance and choreographies, Irish folk tales dramatized through song and dance, and fast-moving hard-shoe dancing.
An Dóchas and the Haran Irish Dancers perform at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave., Everett.
All series performances are free and open to the public. For information, call EvCC Student Activities at 425-388-9561.
