“Subway Had Jared, Now Taco Bell’s Got Christine” … so goes the headline for the fast food industry’s latest, ahem, diet.
In a move of remarkable brilliance, Taco Bell — which has had its “Fresco” menu for six years — is marketing its lower-calorie items anew as part of a Drive-Thru Diet promotion with a new spokeswoman, Christine.
Christine lost 54 pounds in, um, two years by, wait for it, eating 1,250 calories a day and, by the way, eating Fresco menu items instead of other fast food options.
Is this insane?
Maybe not entirely.
While dietitians are scoffing at the high sodium and low protein and fiber content of the Fresco items, it’s tough to beat the calorie counts: All are fewer than 350 calories and four are under 200, not bad for a fast food joint.
What seems unbelievable to us is how crazy supermodel-skinny Christine is now and how totally fine she looked before her effort to slim down.
Did this woman, whose age, hometown, final weight and exercise plan, are not revealed, even need to diet?
Before you jump on the Drive-Thru Diet bandwagon, we’ll leave you with these disclaimers from Taco Bell:
DRIVE-THRU-DIET® IS NOT A WEIGHT-LOSS PROGRAM. FOR A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE, PAY ATTENTION TO TOTAL CALORIE AND FAT INTAKE AND REGULAR EXERCISE. TACO BELL’S FRESCO MENU CAN HELP WITH CALORIE REDUCTIONS OF 20 TO 100 PER ITEM COMPARED TO CORRESPONDING PRODUCTS ON OUR REGULAR MENU. NOT A LOW CALORIE FOOD.
