EVERETT — A national celebration of healthy, sustainable and affordable food includes Food Day events at Everett Community College.
The free events are open to the public and include a sustainable food fair and cookbook swap.
“Many people think it’s too complicated to eat more healthfully or sustainably. It seems like one more overwhelming and costly thing to add to a busy to-do list,” said college nutrition instructor Nancy Vandenberg in a press release. “We want to share a variety of resources and recipes so that anyone could find an idea or two that they could easily implement to improve their personal health and the health of the planet without spending a lot of money.”
The sustainable food fair is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 22 at EvCC’s Henry M. Jackson Conference Center.
The fair features samples of healthy and sustainable foods, educational displays and sustainable vendors. The food samples will be prepared by Everett Community College students and staff with local ingredients, including produce from the campus garden.
The fair also includes a cookbook exchange. Bring a cookbook you want to swap and take home one that’s new to you.
Students will also be collecting non-perishable donations for the food bank.
EvCC’s Food Day events are sponsored by the college Sustainability Initiative, the EvCC Foundation and Student LIFE.
