J.P. Trodden Distilling, which produces bourbon whiskey in Woodinville, has signed a distribution deal with Domaine Select Wine &Spirits to bring their bourbon to the East Coast. The deal will make the bourbon available in New York, New Jersey and Florida.
J.P. Trodden’s Small Batch Bourbon was awarded a double gold medal in the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, putting it in the same class as some of the best bourbons, whiskeys and Scotches in the world.
“We’ve been looking for a partner that understood small distillers like J.P. Trodden are as thirsty for growth as our customers are for our bourbon, but we won’t sacrifice quality to reach it,” said Mark Nesheim, J.P. Trodden owner and distiller. “We’re dedicated to the exacting standards of true craft distilling, and Domaine Select has shown they are as well.”
Domaine Select have worked with other small distillers.
“The quality of the bourbon J.P. Trodden is distilling, and how Mark has done it, is exactly what we look for at Domaine Select,” said Paolo Domeneghetti, CEO of Domaine Select Wine &Spirits. “The way Mark has honored his grandfather’s spirit of passion, ambition and generosity with a spirit of his own that his customers love tells us he’s not willing to settle for less than he’s capable of, and neither are we.”
According to J.P. Trodden’s website, the bourbon’s grains — 70 percent corn and 30 percent winter wheat — are sourced from a family farm in the central Washington town of Quincy.
Distilling is a family affair for Nesheim. His grandfather and the distillery’s namesake, J.P. Trodden, was a mail carrier who traveled between Washington and Canada during Prohibition. Trodden was known to “pick up a few bottles of whiskey on the ‘wet’ side of the border and stash them in his mailbag to share with friends,” according to the website.
“J.P. Trodden has been a labor of love that led to an amazing local following,” said Nesheim. “We can’t wait for new friends on the East Coast to share in what our old friends here in Washington know as something truly special.”
J.P. Trodden’s Small Batch Bourbon retails for approximately $60, and can be found locally at Total Wine and More, Haggen and Trader Joe’s.
