This summer, Snohomish County community stage productions are drawing audiences to local theaters.
At the Historic Everett Theatre, the resident Outcast Players are in production with a farce by Ken Ludwig. “Leading Ladies” centers on two down-on-their-luck Shakespearean actors, Leo Clark and Jack Gable, who hatch a scheme and get themselves into a funny mess portraying women they aren’t.
Outcast’s players include Curt Shriner, Laura Shriner, George Sayah, Scott Freshman, Tom Guerre, Jim Quatier, Laurie Miller and Iris Lilly. The comedy is directed by Curt Shriner with help from Sam Samano, Cheryl Calhoun, Ric Calhoun, Don Newton and Gary Clement. Especially great are Sayah and Freshman as the actors.
“Leading Ladies” plays 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through July 26 at 2911 Colby Ave. Seniors are admitted 2 for 1 on Thursdays. For tickets, $12 each, call the box office at 425-258-6766.
At the PUD theater, the Lake Stevens-based Ludus Youth Theatre Group, which caters to people ages 6 to 20, is staging the full-length Broadway style production of “Shrek The Musical.”
Based on the DreamWorks Animation film, the Tony award-winning musical tells the story of the ogre Shrek, an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey with a wisecracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue.
Starring in the show are some of the best theater students in the county, including Lake Stevens’ Josh Pulley as Shrek and Erik Oriz as Donkey, and Stanwood’s Ireland Woods as Fiona and Levi Bork as Lord Farquaad. The musical is directed and produced by Steven and Cheryl Ortiz, with choreography by Stephanie Wislen and musical direction by Lisa Hanson.
The musical continues this week with performances at 7:30 p.m. July 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and Aug. 1. Matinees at 2 p.m. are offered July 18 and Aug. 1. The PUD is located at 2320 California St., Everett. To book tickets, call 425-239-6627. Cost is $15 general or $12 for children.
