Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival lights up

It’s time again to pay homage to that tall white building with a light, so let the 45th annual Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival begin.

Starting today, Mukilteo Lighthouse Park will be festival central with live entertainment, booths filled with artwork (see visual arts on page 18) and an Avenue of Food where vendors will sell an array of dishes from crepes to kettle corn, barbecue to burgers and pies to pizza.

And there shouldn’t be a bored kid in sight.

There will be a professional skateboard demonstration, tae kwon do demonstrations, a battle of the bands and the huge fireworks display. Children’s activities and other family entertainment are planned throughout the festival.

This year’s parade participants incorporated the theme “Celebrate by the Bay” as part of their entries, so you’ll see lots of bay-inspired floats and costumes during the children’s parade at 10:30 a.m. Saturday followed by the Grand Parade at 11 a.m.

The Parade of Planes starts at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The entertainers lined up this year include didgeridoo player Pam Mortensen, the Gravy and the Biscuit Rollers and Gypsy Villa and The Wolftones.

The Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival runs through the weekend, from 2 p.m. today to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, 609 Front St.

Parking is not allowed in the park during the festival but free shuttle service will be provided from Olympic View Middle School and Kamiak High School.

For a complete list of events and more shuttle options, go to www.mukilteolighthousefestival.com or call 425-353-5516.
