Student concert: The Snohomish County Music Teachers Association annual student award concert with The Starry Night Orchestra of Skagit County, conducted by Sharyn Peterson, features musicians ages 7 to 17, at 3 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Community Performing Arts Theater in the Everett Mall by Macys, 1402 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett. Mark O’Conner: Cross-over musician Mark O’Connor and the O’Connor String Quarter presents a concert that fuses Appalachian fiddling, jazz violin and classical strings at 8 p.m. Jan. 29 at Meany Hall on the UW campus. Bagpipes at Benaroya: Mastery of Scottish Arts performs at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle. This concert of pipes includes traditional bagpipes, borderpipes, smallpipes, fiddles and drums along with pipe virtuoso Fred Morrison who will perform a Meatloaf-style number that might make you think twice about what a bagpiper can do. Also performing is Gary West, host of BBC Radio Scotland’s show “Pipeline,” along with four Celtic dancers.

Musicians needed: The Monroe Concert Community Band is in critical need of clarinet, trumpet, French horn and percussion players. The 60 band members range from high school level to semi-professional.
