Sound Off! accepting entries
Sound Off! at Experience Music Project, the Pacific Northwest’s largest underage battle of the bands, is accepting applications for its 2009 competition. Performers 21 or under who play rock, hip-hop, electronic, pop or any other kind of music are encouraged to enter.
Applications, which can be downloaded at www.empsfm.org/soundoff, and a nonreturnable CD with original music must be mailed by Nov. 10 to: EMP/SFM, Attn: Sound Off!, 330 Sixth Ave. N., Suite 200, Seattle, WA 98109. All participants must be 21 years of age or under as of March 7, 2009.
Twelve semi-finalists will be chosen to perform live on either Feb. 14, 21 or 28. Three bands will be chosen for a live performance at 8 p.m. March 7 in Sky Church at EMP/SFM. The first-place band will perform at Bumbershoot’s 2009 music festival.
Sound Off! has served as a launching ground for several past contestants, earning them critical music-industry exposure and the opportunity to pursue music careers. New Faces, the 2008 winner, was signed by Loveless Records and released a CD, “Two Years,” on Sunday; The Nextdoor Neighbors, 2008 runner-up, will release a debut album, “Magic vs. the Machine,” through Bicycle Records on Monday; and Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head, the 2007 runner-up, released its debut album, “Glistening Pleasure,” through Team Swan Records in July.
