NBC announced that a bunch of “West Wing” alums will return in the show’s final weeks, though not necessarily all for the finale on May 14.
The series will end after its seventh season and is calling on actors such as Rob Lowe, Mary-Louise Parker, Anna Deavere Smith, Emily Proctor, Marlee Matlin, Gary Cole, Tim Matheson, Timothy Busfield and Annabeth Gish to “reprise their memorable characters in one or more of the final episodes.”
Lowe, if you’ll recall, played Deputy Communications Director Sam Seaborn from 1999 to 2003 before his character left to run for Congress in California. Translation: Lowe wanted to try and fail to get two new shows off the ground. Seaborn will return “as a senior political official.”
NBC says the season-long presidential race between Senator Adam Vinick (played by Alan Alda) and Congressman Matt Santos (played by Jimmy Smits) will be decided before Lowe’s return.
Deavere Smith will play presidential adviser Nancy McNally; Parker (“Weeds”) is women’s right advocate Amy Gardner; Proctor returns as Republican attorney Ainsley Hayes; Oscar winner Matlin reprises polling expert Joey Lucas, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…….
Oh! I’m sorry. Am I still writing this?
