Peking Acrobats among China’s most gifted performers

EDMONDS — To help celebrate the week of Lunar New Year, often referred to as Chinese New Year, the Peking Acrobats are in town for a show that includes maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs, trick-cycling, precision tumbling and gravity-defying displays of contortion.

As many reviewers have said, the Peking Acrobats are masters of agility and grace. And they push the envelope of possible human physicality.

The Peking Acrobats’ 2,000-year-old tradition of acrobatics will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

A troupe of China’s most gifted tumblers, contortionists, jugglers, cyclists and gymnasts, the acrobats are complemented by musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments.

Since their Western debut in 1986, the Peking Acrobats have played to sold out houses, been featured on numerous TV shows and set the Guinness world record for the human chair stack with six people balanced precariously on six chairs, 21 feet in the air, without safety lines.

The Peking Acrobats show features astonishing foot juggling dexterity, incredible balancing feats and high-tech special effects. They offer their audiences the opportunity to see a rich and ancient folk art tradition in addition to the pageantry and spectacle of the modern Chinese theatrical circus.

Don’t delay. At press time, a limited number of seats were available.

Tickets are $24-$49 or $15 for students, with a 10 percent discount for seniors and military. Call the ECA Box Office at 425-275-9595, go online to www.ec4arts.org or visit the ECA Box Office, 410 Fourth Ave. N.
