Disappearing act: For more than eight years, photographer Steven Kazlowski made many grueling trips to the Arctic for his book “The Last Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a Warming World.”
Kazlowski will talk about his one-on-one experiences with polar bears at a free slide show and book signing at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Public Library. The list price is $39.95.

Elf or ALF: Everett author Edmund Hood will read from and sign copies of his newest book, “The Millionth Moon,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Children’s Bookshop, 19720 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
The fantasy involves a 9-year-old who just may be an elf from another world. The book lists at $14.95.
Fall leaves: Grab a tote and fill it up at a book sale Saturday at the Mill Creek Library.
The sale, sponsored by The Friends of the Mill Creek Library, is part of Mill Creek’s 25th anniversary celebration.
