Plan your week: Beaches, fairy tales, music, more

A fairy tale: Beth Peterson, Everett Community College theater instructor, will present stage performances of her original children’s story “Tales From the Woods: Book III, The Enchanted Woods” several times this week. The tale is told with live actors and puppets and shows a different story of how Snow White, the Ugly Duckling and Sleeping Beauty got together to fight a common enemy.   • 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Forest Park’s outdoor stage, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett
  • 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Main Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
  • 6:30 p.m. Friday at EvCC, 2000 Tower St., next to the Henry M. Jackson Conference Center

Jetty Island: The ferry to the island departs every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s a great place to play with your kids or just sit back with a good book and relax. Or watch the kiteboarders who like to play off the coast. Get details here.

Visit animals: The petting zoo at Forest Park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids (and their adults) can visit turkeys, chickens, bunnies, pigs, sheep, goat, horses, alpacas and more. Free entrance and pony rides. Donations welcome. Read more in our story here.

Crafts for kids: Ben Franklin Crafts in Monroe has a kids craft camp running Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s for kids from kindergarten to sixth grade. You can bring your kid for one day or all week. Get the details here.

Contemporary and traditional: Tulalip artist James Madison’s exhibit “Generations” opens with a catered reception Thursday evening. The show will be on view through Sept. 21 at Schack Art Center. Get the details, and learn more about his work, in our story here.

Fair time: The Whidbey Island Fair starts on Thursday and runs through Sunday in Langley. You’ll find all the fun you’d expect at a fair: Rides, food, exhibits, animals and lots of fun for families. Get more details here.

Raptors: Get an up-close view of an eagle, owls, a falcon and a hawk at an event at 7 p.m. Friday. Kestrel Skyhawk of the Sarvey Wildlife Center will talk about the birds and conservation. Get the details in our story here.

Wine and planes: The Future of Flight’s Wine &Wings is 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday. You’ll be able to peruse the museum while sampling cuisine from local caterers and restaurants and sipping libations from over 20 wineries. Tickets available here.

Golf: The South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club is hosting a charity golf event Friday at the Everett Golf and Country Club. The event helps fund programs for at-risk kids in the South Everett/Casino Road area. Details are here.

A musical ogre: Kidstage puts on performances of “Shrek” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Everett Performing Arts Center. Get all the info here.
