Schack Art Center’s eclectic art show inspired by the garden

The Art of the Garden show at the Schack Art Center is replete with artistic flowers. Look down the throat of a pink watercolor rose. Marvel at a painterly photo of paper-thin tulips. Wonder at the life cycle of a dandelion, likened in an acrylic painting to a soul that never dies.

This popular biennial juried exhibit, which opens with a reception this evening, involves art created to enhance gardens and art that brings the garden inside. The exhibit is up through Sept. 2.

Visitors will find an eclectic mix of glass, pottery and metal artwork to personalize even the smallest landscape with whimsy and grace, said the Schack’s curators, as well as structural pieces to define garden spaces long after the flowers have faded. Art of the Garden also returns with colorful photography and paintings to brighten any space year-round.

More than 90 regional artists were selected to participate including Jackie Cort (encaustic, Snohomish), Amy Duncan (mixed media, Everett), Charles Guildner (photography, Everett), Yonnah Ben Levy (ceramics, Stanwood), Katie Matson (glass, Mukilteo) and Nancy Loorem (basketry, Langley).

Other artists include Sally Abbey, Barbara Ansley, Jeff Aspnes, Chaim Bezalel, Danielle Bodine, Kiley Branson, Monica Bretherton, Erika Bruss, Barbara Childs, Janice Clem, Mackenzie Colby, Kathy Collins, Lorra Douglass, Dee Doyle, Susan Elliott, Laura Elmore, Kathey Ervin, Cynthia Fankhauser, Keith Field, Jeanine Fitzgerald, Marta Fivehouse-Niemann, Becky Fletcher, Gene Fredrickson, Barbara Freeman, Jeanne Gardner, Roxy Gesler, Jennifer Gottwald.
