Everett man pursues master’s in Oregon

Adam Welly, a recent graduate of Western Washington University, will attend graduate school at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., in the fall.

Welly graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s of science degree in mathematics and a minor in physics from Western Washington University in March.

He was also honored as the outstanding graduate in mathematics for 2010. His parents are Jerry and Maureen Welly of Everett.

Snohomish Rotarians honor AIM students

Members of the Snohomish Rotary Club recognized Hayley Buzard and Patrick Craig as AIM High School students of the fourth quarter on June 3.

The presentations were at an evening dinner meeting. The guest speaker was Snohomish County Sheriff John Lovick.

Snohomish resident awarded scholarship

Shane Lescher, a recent graduate and valedictorian of Snohomish High School, has been awarded a $14,000 per year renewable four-year merit scholarship to attend the University of Portland in Portland, Ore.

The President’s Scholarship is awarded to full-time incoming freshmen who have demonstrated exceptional academic ability.

Lescher graduated from high school with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average and plans to pursue prepharmacy studies. He is the son of Rick and Nancy Lescher of Snohomish.

Arlington girl, 16, gets 4.0 at EvCC

Laura Dietz, 16, of Arlington recently completed her first full year at Everett Community College.

She attended Everett Community College as a freshman under the state’s Running Start Program and attained a 4.0 grade point average for the year.

Dietz also volunteers at Kid’s Closet in Arlington and participates in Medical Explorers at Cascade Hospital. She was recently nominated as the Medical Explorers president. She is the daughter of Michele Wolski and Rob Dietz of Arlington.

Everett grad on La Salle dean’s list

Elizabeth Reed, a 2009 graduate of Everett High School, recently made the dean’s honor list at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pa. She is the daughter of Leslie and John Reed of Marysville.

Whittier Elementary students go to D.C.

Sami Wilson and Ethan Grice of Everett were recently nominated to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., this summer.

Sami and Ethan are both fifth-graders at Whittier Elementary in Everett. They were nominated for their leadership potential and academic achievement.

WSU student receives leadership award

Rachel Solemsaas was recently awarded the Leadership Studies Excellence Fund from Washington State University.

Solemsaas is pursuing her doctoral degree in the higher education administration program with an emphasis on community college, and is expected to graduate from WSU in May 2011. She is the daughter of Myra Herrera of the Philippines and Rolando G. Herrera of Everett.

Knights of Columbus honors students

The Knights of Columbus service student honorees were recently announced for the past three months at Immaculate Conception Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Everett.

For March and April, eighth-graders Kiera Cox and Sean Goldfinch were honored.

Kiera is a 4.0 student. She served as the ASB president, is an altar server and is a member of the Altar Servers’ council, volunteers at the food bank, and is a mentor for the younger dancers at her dance school.

Sean is a member of the Altar Servers’ Council and an active altar server. He also works at the Knights of Columbus.

For May, seventh-grade student Michelle Magbag was selected. She tutors her younger siblings at home as well as baby-sits. Michelle is a member of the Altar Servers’ Council and is an altar server.

She helps her elderly neighbors whenever they need assistance and donates her time to help clean up neighborhoods.

Monroe resident receives scholarship

Buddy Furrer of Monroe recently received a $1,000 scholarship from Northwest Farm Credit Services.

Thirty-six scholarships were given to the children of Northwest Farm Credit Services customers in Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Six high school students and three college students from each state were awarded $1,000 scholarships.

Buddy is the son of Scott and Vicki Furrer of Monroe. He was president of his 4-H club, vice president of FFA, a member of the football team and a member of the Washington Junior Holstein Association.

He will attend Washington State University in the fall.
