Meadowdale senior earns scholarship

Lynnwood Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1984 recently named John Anderson as the 2010 recipient of the Chief Al Dillon Memorial Scholarship.

Anderson is a senior at Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood and will be attending the University of Washington in the fall. He received the $600 award based upon his academic achievements and his essay explaining how different divisions of Lynnwood city government improve the lives of Lynnwood residents.

The scholarship is named after retired Chief Al Dillon, who led the department from 1979 to 1991.

Music students win scholarships

Snohomish County Music Teachers’ Association recently announced their 2010 scholarship winners in piano performance. Contestants were required to play a complete program of four pieces from baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary periods.

All of the winners listed received a cash award with the highest amounts going to the high school winners of $150 each. Winners included:

Sixth grade: First place: Nathaniel Cutshall and Ashley Zhou; second place: Aliya Chen and Madeline Fernando.

Seventh grade: First place: Victor Huyan and Christine Truong; second place: Lisa Nguyen and Ethan Tsai.

Eighth grade: First place: Cecilia Nguyen and Ryan Whitehead; second place: Juliette Bai and Victoria Saha.

Ninth grade: First place: Ransom Cutshall and Anna Fujinaka; second place: Arielle Howard and Cecilia Tran.

10th grade: First place: Britanee Hwee and Philip Saul; second place: Jeanette Ojala and Eric Tan.

11th grade: First place: Josh Lim and Katrina Overgaard; second place: Ternessa Cao and Byron Kim.

12th grade: First place: Kaitlyn Benito and Karen Snare; second place: Catherine Andelin and Eric McElroy.

Students Adrienne DiGiorgio, Dan Skubi and Emily Tjerne also received cash awards in the Non-keyboard Division of the competition.

WSU President’s Honor Roll named

Washington State University President’s Honor Roll for spring 2010 includes undergrads with a grade-point average of 3.75 in at least nine graded hours in a single term at WSU or a GPA of 3.50 based on at least 15 cumulative hours of graded work.

Stanwood student wins EWU scholarship

Ashaya Henderson of Stanwood recently received a Rockwood Clinic sponsored scholarship for $1,000 for the 2010-11 academic year at Eastern Washington University.

The award is given to a junior or senior student with a communications major that is health related.

Henderson is a graduate of Stanwood High School. She is currently a sophomore at EWU and is studying nursing.

She is the daughter of Chris Henderson and Christina Beloit of Stanwood. She is the granddaughter of Ronald and Yvette Beloit of Stanwood.
