Seattle Children’s Theatre’s 2011-2012 mainstage season has a lineup that will appeal to the toddlers and the tweens in the family.
SCT Artistic Director Linda Hartzell says, “This is a season about big dreams.”
The lineup:
“Harold and the Purple Crayon”: Sept. 22. All ages. Ju
st like the book, Harold draws where he wants to go and solves his problems with a crayon in this production with nonstop music and innovative animation.
“Robin Hood”: Oct. 20. For ages 8 and up. If you have a kid who likes action, sword fights, archery and jousting, then this is the show to see as Robin Hood fights for justice in matches of word play and physical comedy.
“A Year with Frog and Toad”: Nov. 17. All ages. Optimistic Frog and conservative Toad turn ordinary events into escapades, from planting flowers to riding a sled, which becomes a trip through a range of emotions from trepidation to comic terror.
“A Single Shard”: Feb. 23. For ages 8 and up. Lessons about taking risks, earning respect and honoring friendship abound in this story set in 12th century Korea. Crippled Crane Man lives under a bridge with 12-year-old orphan Tree Ear who seeks out a better life for both of them at a potter’s shop and embarks on a dangerous journey.
“Help”: April 12. For ages 11 and up. Discover the band from Liverpool before they became the Beatles. While their songs are performed live on stage, we can see their struggles and passions in the evolving process of a group of teens turning into one of the most popular bands in the world.
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favorites”: May 3. For ages 2 to 8. The puppetry of the Mermaid Theatre backed by whimsical music brings this classic tale of a caterpillar that munches everything in sight before emerging as a beautiful butterfly.
Performances are presented at the Seattle Children’s Theatre, 201 Thomas St., Seattle.
