50 YEARS AGO (1959)
After 36 years in business, the Riverside Junk Co. was changing its name to Michelson Steel. It was located at 32nd and Hill streets. Brothers Moe and Jerome would continue as president and secretary-treasurer, respectively.
Thanks to the Navy, Paine Air Force Base had a new chapel. Formerly used in Tacoma, the building was barged up Puget Sound to Everett and trucked to the base, where it was located next to the housing development.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Rental fees paid to the city for temporary use of its sidewalks, streets and alleys was changing from a flat 15 cents per square foot to a variable rate based on the type of use or the average land value, said city property manager Craig Fullerton.
