50 YEARS AGO (1959)
University of Washington physics major R. Jerome Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Peterson, 310 East View Ridge, was selected as the only Washington state man to take part in the European Tour program of the U.S. National Students Association this summer. Jerry would leave June 27 for Europe.
New officers of the Marysville Lions Club were installed by Ben Mitchell of Lake Stevens who was international counsellor for the Lions. The group also decided to suspend meetings until summer. The board would continue to meet month as called by the president, Carroll Barlow.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Tonight was the first game of the Everett Giants in Everett. Even though the Bellingham Mariners won 10-5, the baseball opener was a grand slam for friends. There was standing room only for some of the 3,537 who attended. Fans even had an exuberant Everett version of “The Wave.”
The Everett School Board voted to get out of the day-care business at 5101 Woodlawn Ave. Assistant superintendent Paul Sjunnesesn explained that the run-down center needed repairs and that it had lost money for the past eight years.
