50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Art Larson, New York Life representative in Everett, was the winner of the company’s Appian Way campaign in 1958. Mr. and Mrs. Larson would represent the Puget Sound General Office at the company meeting to be held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. They planned to visit friends in Duluth, Minn., en route home.
Walter Taubeneck was re-elected president at the annual meeting of the Norwest District Beekeepers Association in Marysville. Other officers to serve during 1959 were Albert Erickson, vice president; Donald W. Ness, secretary, and Mrs. Erickson, treasurer.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Winning little, big and in between, boxers of the Everett Fire Fighters claimed three individual championships as well as the team title at the Tacoma Golden Gloves Tournament over the weekend. The individual winners were Tim Curley, Ronnie Warren and Roger Huntley.
Arlington City Hall became 96 pounds lighter to begin February. A weight-loss contest among employees in January resulted in the four-man team losing 56 pounds to defeat the four-woman team, which dropped 40 pounds. The losers bought lunch for loser winners.
