50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Frank A. Patterson, a sergeant in the Everett Police Department, was promoted to the rank of captain. The announcement was made by Commissioner of Safety C. Arvid Johnson. Patterson, who joined the department in 1942, had served continuously with the exception of two years during World War II. His service included a considerable amount of time spent with the youth of the city. For the past 12 years, he had directed the school patrol camp at Silver Lake.
The electronic sign at Everett Trust and Savings on Colby Ave. indicated it was 54 degrees at 9 a.m. The area was experiencing balmy weather its last day of 1958.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Ending the year with birthdays were Merrie Sekulich, Ann Crawford, Martha Johnson, Jim Couture, Howard Hughlen, Pete McFall, Bob Rudge and Stu Howes. Starting the new year with birthdays were Earl Torgeson and Shirely J. Evans.
Shari’s at the College Plaza Shopping Center on north Broadway offered a family-style breakfast for $3.25. Children 10 and under were $2.25 and those under 2 were free. Shari’s was open 24 hours a day.
