50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Bob Reinertson, retiring president of South Everett Commercial Club, presented Stan Holm, his successor, with the inscribed gavel given the club’s presiding officer by Jim Howells, president of Security National Bank and a member of the club.
The Rev. and Mrs. Troy Hillis and their two children were leaving soon for Resistencia, Argentina, where they would serve as missionaries for five years. Formerly with the New Testament School on Norton Avenue, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Hill of 2716 Rucker Ave.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
For those whose New Year’s resolutions targeted outdoor exercise, the “Meet Your Out-of-Doors Experts” seminar was a good bet. Representatives of Pilchuck Audubon, Everett Mountaineers and Everett Parks and Recreation joined Washington State University Extension agent John Munn to talk about upcoming programs.
Local young men were getting training in the armed forces. Brian Johnson, Everett, had completed an aviation electronics course in the Marines. Clarence Case, Edmonds, had completed Army police training. Howard Plankenborn III, Edmonds, had completed a special Army course. Greg Beavers, Edmonds, had graduated from an Air Force armament course.
