50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Homer Sayles, foreman in the Perma-Lite Products plant in Marysville, was manning one of the machines which made various blocks for building construction. The company manufactured concrete and pumice blocks. Loren Blanchard was manager and partner in the company. It was located behind Bowen-Ingram next to the B&M shopping center.
Under the sponsorship of the Monroe Kiwanis Club, the annual March of Dimes drive in the Monroe area would open Jan. 2 with Frank Killen, R.J. Stretch and Walter S. Camp serving as co-chairs.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
As federal income tax forms began going out, local Postal Service officials were coming off a Christmas season that saw a marked increase in the number of letters and packages leaving Snohomish County. Everett Postmaster Arne Hill said that packages from the Zip-code area 982 were running about 20 to 25 percent ahead of last year.
Everett was 83 acres larger. The Everett City Council approved an ordinance annexing the area south of the Walter E. Hall Golf Course, abutting the city north of 100th Street SW and east of Paine Field.
