50 YEARS AGO (1958)
“Sighting-in” their hunting rifles at the Monroe range were Al Johnson of Lake Stevens and Karl Bielser of Everett. The Snohomish County Rifle and Pistol Association opened the range on this date for this convenience to hunters.
Practicing lines for one of the several plays of the Junior Theater Guild were Jon Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Cook; Tom Wynne, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Wynne; and Janet Iles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Iles.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
The Port of Everett purchased the old Weyerhaeuser Mill A site at the foot of Rucker Hill. The mill had closed in 1980. John Belford, port executive director, said the 65-acre parcel gave the port two new deep-water shipping docks with the potential to build two more.
Faced with general deterioration of the 30-year-old restaurant building at the city-owned Cedarcrest Golf Course, Marysville officials were trying to decide whether it should be remodeled or replaced. Golf course manager and professional Don Shaw, Mayor Daryl Brennick, city clerk and finance director Phil Dexter and Golf Club president Floyd Turner were looking at the costs.
