50 years ago (1961)
Frances Schick, 6707 Beverly Lane, had lunch with Lili Karnatz, of Hamburg, Germany, at the Everett Bon Marche. During their lunch they enjoyed a fashion show. Mrs. Karnatz said they had the same clothes in Germany, but that they were very expensive.
Dwight N. Rousu, Route 2, Monroe, was named one of five high school senior in the United States to receive a four-year Aid Association for Lutherans scholarship to Valparaiso University, Indiana. The Sultan High grad was presented his scholarship at Monroe’s Peace Lutheran Church, where the Rev. Martin Stuebe was pastor.
25 years ago (1986)
A portion of Pacific Avenue was closed each evening this week to allow Burlington Northern Railroad crews to remove some unused track. The closure of the major east-west thoroughfare would be between Broadway and Cedar Street.
Everett fire officials were investigating the cause of a fire that extensively damaged the interior of a one-story building near Silver Lake. Battalion chief Tom Haugstad said flames were flying out of two windows of Silver Plaza. The blaze then spread to other suites possibly via the ventilation system.
