50 years ago (1961)
Lee Johnson, president of Ttereve Chapter, National Secretaries Association, presented the chapter’s $100 scholarships to Donna Ballou of Marysville, and Creone Chilstrom of Sultan. Both planned to attend Everett Junior College in the fall.
Fred Stadler of Stadler Construction Co., Everett, was lauded recently by officers of the Alderwood Youth Club for his support of the club’s program to develop a recreation site and field buildings. Stadler, whose home was at 17625 36th Ave., Alderwood Manor, was described by Club President Robert Thompson as enthusiastic and hard working.
25 years ago (1986)
Snohomish County’s new Huey helicopter was used for the first time to airlift an injured climber and a rescue medic team from Sloan Peak in the northeastern part of the county. Roy Reed, sheriff’s office spokesperson, said the new helicopter accomplished the task in about two hours.
It was a hard day for clams, but everyone else had fun. Warm, sunny weather and an extremely low tide. Barefoot youngsters at Brackett’s Landing in Edmonds and Picnic Point to the north romped across the sand carrying plastic pails and shovels digging clams and building sand castles.
