50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Approval for a comprehensive plan for the aeronautical and industrial development of Snohomish County Airport and Paine Field was given by the recently formed Airport Commission. Airport Manager George Forbes said it called for present and future construction of taxiways, parking, hangars, buildings, offices and utilities.
William F. Mulligan, a Navy flight surgeon and son of Mr. and Mrs. William Mulligan of Marysville, recently took part in a daring air-to-sea rescue of an injured shrimp boat fisherman off the Florida coast. Dr. Mulligan was lowered into the vessel to give emergency care to the victim.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
A historic jetliner had landed a new home. Everett Community College now had its very own 88-passenger commercial jet airliner. Instructor Bill Loomis said working with the historic De Havilland Comet would be a unique experience for students.
The Herald was rating some of the great football teams around Snohomish County. At No. 5 was the Cascade High School team of 1962 that helped the school establish its identity. It was the first year for all three grades at the south Everett school and Robert “Pinky” Erickson’s team won eight games.
