50 years ago (1962)
Everett attorney James P. “Jim” Hunter, was the new president of the Everett Golf and Country Club. He succeeded Jim Cuthill. Other new officers were Cecil Cole, vice president, and Ken Tapert, treasurer. Del Buse, Dr. Warren Cronkite and Dr. David Shore succeeded William Jenkins, Gerald Kravik and Art Torkelson on the board.
Nancy Elizabeth Williams was engaged to Robert Lee Meador, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee F. Meador. She was the daughter of Mrs. Emily O. Williams and the late Mr. Lew L. Williams. Nancy was a 1962 Everett High School graduate, while her husband graduated from Everett High in 1961.
25 years ago (1987)
County officials said a deal had been reached to purchase Otter Island, the “little jewel” of the Snohomish River delta and home to bald eagles and red hawks. Landowner Jim Rhodes was expected to sign over the deed to the 164-acre pristine parcel today. The County Council would have to approve the $164,350 purchase.
Edmonds residents awoke at about 3:45 this morning to the sound of fire sirens triggered by an emergency generator being used during power outages caused by high winds. About 4,000 county residents were without lights.
